My Journey

Hello, I’m Susan. I am a fifth generation Nashvillian who has been working as a creative since the age of fifteen. My first job was working for a family owned publishing company after school and on weekends. I started doing bindry work, then moved into the art department to learn production. Within the year, I was training other part-time workers to do my job.

From an early fascination with visual storytelling to leading high-impact design teams, my career has been a journey of creativity, strategy, and transformation. With an innate ability to blend artistry with technology and business objectives, I have spent years shaping brands, refining workflows, and creating compelling visual experiences that resonate.

My story unfolds across multiple industries, each chapter marked by innovation. At Reading Horizons, I didn’t just design—I elevated brand engagement, leading a full website redesign that modernized the company’s digital presence. I crafted marketing designs that became templates and streamlined execution, ensuring consistency across all touchpoints. Every asset I developed contributed to a larger narrative: one of clarity, impact, and brand cohesion.

As Director of Design and Production at Evan-Moor, I led a team of multi-tiered designers, managers, and content creators in the creation of educational curriculum materials for grades K–8. I was a hands-on supervisor who led by example, producing 6–8 books a year myself. By doing this, I was able to I build workflows that optimized product development, introduced cost-saving measures, and implemented a Digital Asset Management (DAM) system to organize 40+ years of creative assets. My leadership shaped not just individual projects, but the very foundation of how Evan-Moor’s design team operated.

But my expertise isn’t confined to corporate roles. As a freelance designer, I have partnered with educational publishers, marketing teams, and small businesses, crafting branding solutions, WordPress websites, and marketing collateral that amplify client visibility. I am a strategic thinker, bringing creative solutions to industries that need someone experienced in all facets of creative storytelling.

With proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, WordPress, project management tools, and digital marketing platforms, I seamlessly adapt to the evolving design landscape. Whether leading a creative team, reimagining a brand’s digital presence, or crafting print and digital assets, my mission remains the same: to transform concepts into visually stunning, user-centric experiences.

My story isn’t just about design—it’s about making an impact.
